One way in.
Heart racing,
Fear paced.
Slam the door of my red cage shut.
Engine silenced.
Turn my back on the mechanics of my world,
Face front and breathe.
In,
Out.
Stunned by the intensity of alone.
Man is here.
I see his home.
I see his filth.
I see the marks he leaves behind.
I don't see him.
Alone.
Breathe.
One way out.

the third stanza makes me think this is from the eyes of an animal...the way that it addresses man....ugh on the marks we leave and how it affects animals...i wonder if alone is not better for them....on some level
ReplyDeleteYes sometimes alone is much better for nature.
DeleteSolitude is not always loneliness, but sometimes the physical act of being alone hits us at full force. Powerful single word lines. A sense of claustrophobia too.
ReplyDeleteMarina, I think you felt what I felt when I was writing this
Deletepowerful emotions in this... shutting the doors behind us for a moment...feeling on the other side of things... overwhelmed...fearful a bit? an observer... not bad to look at us...at life..at our world like that from time to time
ReplyDeleteClaudia, I was definitely feeling fearful.
DeleteI wonder so what the red cage is.. and how the narrator views his captor... to be captured has to be tough..
ReplyDeleteIt's two things, physically the smallest gondola you could hope to see, but also a fear and rage.
Deletethe tang of loneliness. well captured!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much
DeleteWhat a range of intense emotions in here-from rage,to fear to loneliness and contempt and finally peace-wonderfully expressed:-)
